Behind The Lens

I am Edmund O’Leary, Founder of Green Green Grass, a coaching consultancy built on genuine rapport with a focus on supporting people aged 50+ facing redundancy.  Approaching my sixth decade, I draw from a deep reservoir of experience to help clients navigate the intricate mazes of modern existence. My approach is personal and holistic, ensuring each person receives the dedicated energy they require.

Early Days

Although I was born in London, at the age of four, I returned to my Dad's birth place in County Clare, Ireland. I returned to the Emerald Isle with my Parents & sisters, Mary and Sarah. Two brothers came along making us a family unit of seven! Yes seven! We settled into the Capital of County Clare, a lovely town called Ennis. Ennis is located in the Mid West of Ireland.

After graduating from the University of Limerick, I moved to Wimbledon in South West London with a University friend. I applied to British Rail in Wimbledon & was offered a Clerical role in the Department of Signals & Telecommunications. It was a busy role supporting the Area Signal & Telecom Engineer. My colleagues embraced me & we worked very hard behind the scenes to keep the trains in motion across the region. I ended up being promoted to Training & Development Manager in The City of London based at Liverpool Street. I still have fond memories of walking past the Bank of England daily during my commute from Epsom to Bank via London Waterloo. Life was good in my 20's! I got married & moved to Leatherhead. We succeeded in getting on to the property ladder & raised two Twin Sons. Life was sweet until the British Government announced plans to privatise Britain's Railways. I ended up being made redundant from the City job & thought it would be easy to find a new role. It wasn't to be. Life's sweetness was beginning to evaporate as I entered married life going from being Unemployed to Employed to Unemployed due to short term contracts. The cycle continued.

Over the coming years I ended up working for some of Britain's Household names such as the Royal Mail, Tesco & Channel 5 Television. These tenures make me what I am today. I have learnt how major organisations work. I have learnt how to collaborate with colleagues. I have learnt the value of continually pushing forward, making the most of opportunities when they come along.  I have experienced the Joys & Sorrows of Corporate life.

Over time I gravitated towards employment in the Third Sector working for a small mental health charity called The Mary Frances Trust to bigger charities such as the Richmond Fellowship & Choice Support. I played a pivotal role in establishing a brand new out of hours mental health crisis centre called The Safe Haven with Jane & Clare. I worked for two national mental health charities as an Employment Specialist. I supported hundreds of clients from the Pan Disability spectrum into sustainable employment. These roles gave me a lot of fulfilment.

The Coronavirus Era & That Famous Tweet!

This was a period of intense sadness & personal hardship. I was unemployed during the lockdowns. I was unable to fly. The world went from being colourful to monochrome. I was in good company. Tragically thousands of people across the United Kingdom & Ireland succumbed to the virus and died. Indeed this was a worldwide pandemic. It was a very sad time. Social distancing, Face Masks & long queues at the Supermarkets.

That Tweet & The Immense Joy that followed.

On Friday the 16th of October 2020 at 1126PM I composed a Tweet with the following text:

"I am not OK. Feeling rock bottom. Please take a few seconds to say hello if you see this tweet. Thank you."

And what followed was completely unexpected bringing me immense joy for at least two weeks. This Tweet was seen by 20,000,000 people with over 100,000 people reaching out to me with support using poetry, images & gifts. The World rallied around me & I became the focus of a Global Good News story. The British & American media were queuing up to interview me for television, radio and print content. I ended up on the front page of The Sunday Times the day before my 53rd Birthday. The Late Rev Sue Bull, Chair of Love Me Love My Mind became my "agent" and commented that my 53rd Birthday on Monday 19th October 2020 would be an extraordinary day in my life. And she was 100% correct as always! The Late Rev Sue Bull, Chair of Love Me Love My Mind supported and guided me through two live television interviews. The first was BBC Breakfast & the second was iTV This Morning with Hosts Eamonn & Ruth Holmes. It was two weeks of being made feel like a "ROCKSTAR". I enjoyed every minute. The whole experience brought out the best in me. And these memories will stay with me for the rest of my Life.

2020 - 2026

The past few years marked a period of intense evolution; navigating grief in 2024 sparked deep introspection, followed by the challenge of a cardiac diagnosis in 2026. After recovery, I returned with a revitalized passion for living. I view our path as a complex voyage shaped by sudden shifts and unique openings. Green Green Grass was born on the 21st of August 2026.  Offfering a candid methodology for navigating these transitions. I focus on supporting individuals hunting for their true professional purpose or new interests. Through extensive study, I developed the Six Meaningful Conversations methodology as my core practice. This structured approach fosters the bond necessary to construct a life of soul-deep satisfaction. While the Six Meaningful Conversations package facilitates profound change, I also facilitate individual hourly consultations for those seeking rapid, targeted insight on specific hurdles.
